ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Community Health Impact Coalition (CHIC) is making professional community health workers (proCHWs) the norm worldwide by changing guidelines, funding, and policy. We research to equip international norm setters with evidence. We advocate to influence global financing institutions. And we activate in-country CHW networks to win proCHW national policy. CHIC includes CHWs and global health organizations in 60 countries. We exist because CHWs work. Our vision is quality care for all, including those who provide it.

The mission of the Director of Finance and Operations is to guide CHIC from fiscal sponsorship to independent operations while building scalable systems in finance, operations, and people, enabling CHIC to deliver on its global mission with integrity and sustainability. This role involves line management responsibilities with up to four direct reports as well as budget oversight, and we are looking for a radically collaborative team player with a strong growth mindset.

POSITION INFORMATION

Job Title: Director of Finance and Operations

Time Allocation: Full Time

Compensation: $135,000 - $150,000, Grade 3, Band 4-5, refer to compensation policy

Location: Remote, with at least 4 hours of daily workday overlap with EST/EDT timezone

  • By end of Year 1 lead a 4-person operations team that consistently delivers high-quality support across finance, HR, compliance, and operations.
  • Ensure CHIC operates within budget, with accurate reporting and clean external audit results annually.
  • Maintain compliance and governance standards across all jurisdictions where CHIC operates. 
  • Establish scalable, technology-enabled systems that support a globally distributed team efficiently.
 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • General Operations and Organizational Strategy
    • Lead development of operations team priorities 
    • Lead organization-wide change management initiatives and process improvements
    • Advises the CEO and COO on questions related to fiscal sponsorship transition
    • Develop and implement scalable operational systems, processes, and policies
  • Legal and Compliance
    • Oversee and ensure organizational compliance at the local, state, federal and international levels
    • Review contracts and manage organizational insurance policies to mitigate risk
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for outside legal counsel related to operations
  • Finance - in coordination with outsourced accounting and financial management partner:
    • Manage CHIC’s financial platforms
    • Oversee core financial activities including: accounts receivables, accounts payables, credit cards and reconciliation of expenses, credit card reconciliations and expense reimbursements, and monthly financial reporting and analysis
    • Develop financial policies and procedures manual
    • Oversee annual 1099 preparation, 990 reporting, and audit
    • Lead development and management of organizational budget 
    • Prepare periodic financial reports as required by Management, Board of Directors, Board Finance Committee, and funders
    • Work with the Board Treasurer to determine the optimal financial account portfolio
    • Manage organizational cash flow by updating the funding pipeline and expense forecast
    • Develop system for cash advances to facilitate travel for CHWs and team members
    • Provide timely and relevant info for preparation of grant proposals and reports
  • People Operations 
    • Manage new staff onboarding and employee offboarding 
    • Ensure fair and equitable application of personnel policies and procedures 
    • Lead development of team-building and wellness activities, including team retreat
    • Manage relationship with PEOs and global employers of record
  • Contract Management & Procurement
    • Oversee end-to-end procurement and contracting, including vendor selection, relationship management, and performance oversight
  • Subgrants Management 
    • Oversee the subgranting process 
    • Prepare and manage subgrant agreements and reports
    • Maintain subgrant files and tracking systems 
  • IT - with support from the Technology Manager: 
    • Oversee digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and organizational software, ensuring effective knowledge management, smooth rollout and maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous optimization of technology solutions

KPIs AGAINST WHICH YOU WILL BE ASSESSED

  • 100% on-time and accurate financial reporting to leadership, Board, and funders
  • Successfully lead the team through an effective and efficient budgeting process, as evaluated by the finance committee.
  • Team engagement scores >80%
  • Operational systems rated "fit for purpose" by staff in end-of-year survey
  • Timely execution of core operational functions including contracts, payments, and vendor management

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Must Have Experience:

  • 10+ years of related professional experience managing operations for a non profit, ideally within an international context
  • Proven success transitioning an organization from fiscal sponsorship (or similar) to independent operations
  • Significant experience managing budgets, cash flow, audits, and compliance
  • Strong people leadership: has managed small but mighty teams
  • Comfortable leading organizational change, building systems, and managing risk
  • Strong alignment to CHIC values

Ideally, have experience with: 

  • Experience in coalition or membership-based organizations
  • Global HR and compliance experience beyond the US
  • Multilingual (French or Spanish)
